Hudson AMVETS Riders Collecting Donations for Support Our Soldiers Boxes

Hudson AMVETS Riders will continue hosting Burger Nights this month, with upcoming dates set for Sept. 4, 11 and 18. Burger Nights will be held from 5-7 p.m. To-go orders are also available and may be placed by calling 319-239-3176.

Organizers thanked everyone who attended the previous two Burger Nights and said the continued community support is greatly appreciated.

In addition to serving burgers, the AMVETS Riders are using the events as an opportunity to collect donations for their Support Our Soldiers, or SOS, boxes. The boxes are assembled and sent to deployed service members for the holidays.

A donation table will be available during Burger Nights for anyone wishing to contribute. Suggested items include protein or granola bars, powdered drink mixes, beef jerky, trail mix, dried fruit, cookies, crackers, tuna or chicken salad pouches, trial-size toiletries, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, lip balm, laundry detergent, dryer sheets and over-the-counter pain or allergy medications.

Entertainment and comfort items are also welcome, including recently released DVDs, game books, playing items such as dice or dominoes, fleece blankets and standard-size pillowcases. Cash donations are also accepted and will be used to help fill the boxes.

Donations for the SOS boxes will be accepted through Oct. 2.
