Obituary: Richard "Dick" Saul
Richard "Dick" Allen Saul, 91, of Cedar Falls, IA formally of Lansing, IA and Alamo, TX passed away November 6, 2025, at Ravenwood Memory Care Unit, Waterloo,IA. Dick was born on June 6, 1934, to Thomas and Thelma (Wood) Saul. He graduated from West High in Waterloo. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Dick worked construction at John G Miller and Cardinal Construction retiring in 1996. On November 13, 1954, he married Doris Engel at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He passed just one week short of celebrating their 71st Anniversary. Together they raised five children.
In his younger days, Dick rode bulls and broncos for Barnes Rodeo. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with many trips to Wyoming to elk hunt. Dick served as the President for the Isaak Walton League, and was a member of The Elks Club. In retirement they traveled around the country in the motorhome for many years.
Dick is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Theresa "Teri" Young of Cedar Falls, Neal (Kathy) Saul of Texarkana, TX, son-in-law, Greg Westphal of Dubuque, IA, Cindy (Bob) Lentzkow of Waterloo, IA and Denise (Jim) Dunnigan of Cedar Falls. Ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. One brother, Don (Nancy) Saul of Waterloo, IA. Brothers-in-law, Gary Kline of Titusville, FL, and Jim McLaury of Independence, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherri Westphal; son-in-law, Keith Young; two sisters, Betty Kline and Bonnie McLaury.
A Celebration of Life was held on Friday November 21, 2025 with services following at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren. Private interment will take place at a later date. Special thanks to St. Croix Hospice, Ravenwood Memory Care Unit, and Pinnacle Specialty Care for the compassionate care they provided during Richard's stay and Pastor Dave Kerkove from the South Waterloo Church of the Brethren for his numerous visits and prayers.
