Obituary: Kenneth Witt

Kenneth Vern Witt, 90, of Hudson, Iowa, died on October 14, 2025, surrounded by  loved ones at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital.

Ken was born on October 28,1934, in Hudson to Vern E. and Mildred J. (Dinsdale) Witt.  The oldest of four siblings, Ken grew up on a farm south of Hudson. Upon graduation from  Hudson High School in 1952, he worked as a milkman for Walnut Dairy delivering milk from  door to door.

On September 3, 1957, Ken married Georgianna (Georgie) Schley in Waterloo, and  together they raised eight children. Ken was a great father, instilling in his children a deep faith  and enthusiasm for life.

While Ken enjoyed his work for the dairy, photography was a passion he shared with  Georgie. With a camera he purchased after high school, the two began taking pictures of their  friends’ children and developing the photos in their own dark room. One request led to another,  and soon Witt Photography was born. Ken left his job at the dairy, set up a studio in downtown  Hudson, and was blessed with 35 years working alongside his wife and children, capturing  countless weddings and other meaningful moments. In his later years, Ken worked at Chick-fil A, fondly known by regular customers as “Ken the Greeter.”

Through the ups and downs of life, Ken remained steadfast in his faith. A shining  example of the gospel, Ken always had a smile on his face, a gleam in his eye, and scripture in  his heart – ready to comfort or encourage anyone who needed it. Though he’s now gone, the  fruits of his labor as a faithful servant of Christ live on through generations. This was the advice  he left his loved ones: “Love the Lord with all your heart. Enjoy life because it goes by really  fast, and be ready to be with Jesus for all eternity!”

Ken is survived by two sons and three daughters: Jeff (Carla) Witt of Hudson; Luci (Jeff)  Huegel of Marion; Lynn (Keith) Gaylor of Marion; Dave (Jarith) Witt of Hudson; and Lani (John)  Hill of LaPorte City. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren: Erik, Aaron, Miranda, Taylor, Kayla,  Travis, Jacob, Brianna, Shelby, Zachary, Austin, Graham, Seth, Joe, Joy, Jaci, Justin, Emily,  Matt, Lucas, Sydnie and Maggie; 25 great-grandchildren (with three more expected in 2026);  his brothers Don (Joanne) and Glen (JoAnn); his sister Maxine (John) Bushbaum; and his  companion Judy Gray of Dunkerton.
