Hudson Golf: Boys Finish Third in Comet Invite, Delagardelle Medalist
by Jeff Curley
The Hudson Boys Golf Team Finished third in the BCLUW Comet Invite on Monday in Conrad. The 8-team field had a great weather day to golf and the scores showed it. Hudson was led by junior Blake Delagardelle with a 75, earning Blake Medalist honors in the meet. Blake continues to demonstrate consistent results and has had a great season so far. Sophomore Ty Halupnick stepped up once again shooting an 80 and continuing his improvement he has shown throughout the season. Ty has really gained confidence and his results have been great. Junior Tripp Thompson carded a 81 in the Comet Invite and continues to bring in a solid score each meet. Tripp always plays his best golf around postseason time and is trending that way once again.
Junior Gavin Gunnarson shot a 83 in the meet and like Tripp, always seems to be playing some of his better golf in May which is always the goal. Junior Preston Germain carded a 93 and senior Justin Gavigan played in his first varsity meet in his first year out for golf. Special shout out to Justin for his great attitude and mindset learning the game of golf. It is refreshing to see someone doing their very best each day and not complaining or getting frustrated along the way. Justin has been a pleasure to have on the team and we know he will enjoy a lifetime of golf experiences with a smile on his face. Thank you Justin for your great example and perspective you have brought to this team and to all of us.
The Hudson Girls Golf Team also played in the BCLUW Comet Invite on Monday in Union. We did not have a team score in the 8-team, 18-hole event on this day as we brought two golfers. Sophomore Alissa Leary recorded a 114 (56-58), her personal best nine and 18- hole scores in her first year on the golf team. Alissa has continued to gain confidence and is enjoying the game a little more each time out. It’s so important that beginning golfers stick with it long enough to see the improvement that comes with more experience.
Sophomore Katie Barber carded a 134 (66-68) in the Comet Invite and has also demonstrated more consistent play this year in her second year on the team. Katie has a great attitude as well as she continues to learn the game and always is eager to keep improving. Freshmen Shannon Komen and Emma Sido did not play in this meet but have both also been great to work with in their first year on the golf team. Shannon has experienced many successes on the course in her first year and Emma continues to love the game a little more every day and is improving each week. We are more than proud of this year’s girls and look forward to the upcoming years with them.
