Girls Track: Pirates post strong back-to-back performances at Waverly, West Delaware

The Hudson girls track team turned in a strong showing across back-to-back meets, beginning with the Waverly-Shell Rock Co-Ed Invite on Monday, March 30.  

Competing at Waverly-Shell Rock High School, the Pirates placed sixth with 71 points, recording 10 top six finishes, four personal records and three season-best performances.  Ella Steele highlighted the meet with a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.94). Her  time currently ranks fifth in the state across all classes.  

Mollie Hansen also led the way, winning the 3,000-meter run (11:31.08) and placing second in  the 800 meters (2:24.59).  

In relay action, the 4x400 team of Elle Gunnarson, Jordyn Rhoades, Hansen and Steele placed  second with a season-best time of 4:20.94, while the 4x800 team of Gunnarson, Rhoades, Steele and  Reagan Lewis finished third (10:24.16, SB).  

The distance medley relay team of Jaylea Trevey, Maggie Haskovec, Hannah Chardoulis and  Reese Hansen placed fourth (4:49.27).  

Hannah Chardoulis added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (4-8, SB), while Teagan  Honermann placed fifth in the 400 meters (1:09.79). Megan Steele finished sixth in the 3,000 meters  (13:56.35), and the sprint medley relay team of Josie Messmore, Trevey, Haskovec and Honermann  placed sixth (2:10.41).  

The Pirates returned to action the following night at the West Delaware Early Bird Invitational,  where they continued their strong start to the season.  

The highlight of the meet came from Megan Steele, who earned her first career gold medal,  winning the 3,000-meter run with a personal-record time of 13:38.61.  

“I have been working hard to improve my times, and it was fun to be in first place to hear the bell  ring for my final lap,” Steele said. “What a great senior memory to finish with a gold.”  Mollie Hansen added another first-place finish in the 800 meters (2:26.40).  

Hudson found continued success in the relays. The 4x100 team of Josie Messmore, Cailin  Stickfort, Ella Steele and Rebecca Vidal placed second (53.19), while the 4x800 team of Gunnarson,  Rhoades, Ella Annis and Lewis also finished second (10:55.47). The 4x400 team of Teagan Honermann,  Chardoulis, Annis and Vidal placed third (4:44.59).  

Steele added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.99). Cailin Stickfort placed  second in the 200 meters (28.75) and third in the 100 meters (13.86).  

The distance medley relay team of Trevey, Haskovec, Chardoulis and Reese Hansen placed third  (4:56.32). Kate Stayer placed third in the 3,000 meters (14:35.08), while Reese Hansen added a third place finish in the 1,500 meters (5:44.52).
