A conversation about sponsoring Cattle Congress sparked an opportunity that will benefit Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA members for years to come.
That conversation led Dr. Power Sports owner Travis Reid to think of Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA when Can-Am introduced Can-Am for a Cause, a new initiative that encourages dealers to nominate deserving agriculture- and youth-based organizations for a vehicle donation.

Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA was ultimately selected as one of only two organizations in Iowa to receive a new 2026 Can-Am Defender Limited Max, valued at $37,799.

The program was introduced during a May meeting between Can-Am, BRP and Iowa dealers. After recognizing organizations in Texas in previous years, Can-Am expanded Can-Am for a Cause to Iowa in 2026 as part of an effort to grow its brand while investing in communities through organizations dedicated to agriculture and youth development.

Organizations are nominated by local dealers, who identify groups they believe would benefit from a Can-Am Defender while making a positive impact in their communities.

For Reid, the nomination came naturally.
About a month before the dealer meeting, Reid had met with Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA Board President Russell Seekins to discuss sponsoring Cattle Congress. Although the conversation was unrelated to Can-Am for a Cause, it stayed with Reid.

“When Can-Am presented the opportunity, Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA was the first organization I thought of,” Reid said.
After reviewing previous Can-Am for a Cause recipients in Texas, Reid believed the local organization closely matched the type of group the company hoped to recognize.

He contacted Seekins, and together they completed the roughly 30-question application, gathering photos, information from previous county fairs and examples of the organization’s youth programs, projects and community involvement.

In early June, they learned Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA had been selected from applications submitted across Iowa. The selection made Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA one of just two organizations in Iowa chosen to receive a Can-Am Defender through the program’s first year in the state.

“They are a very good organization, and they will get use out of it,” Reid said.
For Reid, who recently became owner of Dr. Power Sports alongside his wife, Monica, and their son, Hayes, the award reflects the type of business they hope to build—one that invests in the communities it serves while supporting organizations dedicated to helping the next generation grow, learn and succeed.
Seekins credited Reid for recognizing the opportunity and nominating Black Hawk County 4-H & FFA.

“Receiving this gift enables us to be able to work around the fairgrounds easier to ensure that the kids who have dedicated their time and effort into their 4-H projects get the best experience possible,” Seekins said. “It also helps us set up for our activities that are open to the public during the week of the fair.”
The Defender will be used throughout fair week to transport equipment, assist volunteers and support daily operations, allowing organizers to better serve exhibitors and visitors.

Seekins said the impact extends well beyond the fairgrounds.
“Our goal is to promote all the values of 4-H and FFA, as well as introducing and informing the public about the work that we do and exposing them to agriculture and static projects they may not have access to or know about otherwise,” he said.
The Defender will also be used at community events and parades, helping introduce more young people to the opportunities available through 4-H and FFA.
“4-H and FFA are great programs for kids from any walk of life,” Seekins said. “Getting them involved is something that will stay with them for a lifetime.”
