Ward 2 Special Election – Voting Information and Deadlines

The Black Hawk County Auditor’s Office reminds voters that the special election to fill the Ward  2 vacancy on the Waterloo City Council will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.  

Absentee Voting:  

• In-person early voting: Now through Monday, February 23 at the Black Hawk County Auditor’s  Office during regular business hours (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday).  

• By mail: Absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, February  24, 2026, to be counted.  

Election Day Voting:  

Two vote center locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Voters may vote at either  location regardless of their precinct. All voters must present an acceptable form of identification.  Vote Center Locations:  

Central Christian Church  

3475 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, IA 50702  

Crossroads Community Church  

3622 Hammond Ave., Waterloo, IA 50702  

Election Outcome & Term Information:  

• Majority Vote Required: Because Waterloo is a runoff city, a candidate will be elected on  February 24, 2026 only if they receive a majority of votes cast.  

• Runoff Provision: If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff election will be conducted on  March 24, 2026, between the two candidates with the highest vote totals.  

• Length of Term: The candidate elected will serve the remainder of the unexpired term ending in  2027.
