The Hudson Lions are Thankful

The Hudson Lions are sincerely grateful for the tremendous support our community showed at this year's Pie Judging Contest and Pie & Ice Cream Social. As the world's largest service organization, we are proud to partner with the Community Church of Hudson to raise funds for its Project Pencils program, which provides school supplies to local students in need.

This year, the Community Church of Hudson received a record number of 76 applications from families requesting assistance through Project Pencils. The church provides the “lion's share” of the school supplies, while the Hudson Lions Club proudly supplements the remaining needs. Together, we are helping ensure that local students begin the school year equipped with the supplies they need to succeed.

Slominski, Ben Smiley, and Jake Taylor—approached their task with great care and dedication. Selecting the Grand Champion Pie was no easy feat! In fact, the judges couldn't reach a consensus on a single reserve champion, so three additional outstanding pies joined the Grand Champion Pie in the live auction.

Their inability to compromise turned out to be a blessing, as the extra pies helped raise even more money for Project Pencils!

Hudson High School student and auctioneer Mac Schrader and his energetic team of ringmen brought enthusiasm, humor, and excitement to the auction, raising an impressive $525 in just a matter of minutes.

We thank the bidders who won pies. They were Sam Kleiss, George Wessel, Ann and Tom Schrader, Mike Youngblut. The bidders’ generosity makes a meaningful difference in the lives of local children and their families.

Finally, thank you to everyone in the Hudson community who braved the blistering summer heat to attend the Pie & Ice Cream Social. Your generosity and support make events like this possible to help us to continue serving our community. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
