Officer Tyler Sohm was recognized Monday night as the Hudson Police Department’s  2025 Officer of the Year during the Hudson City Council meeting.

Hudson Police Chief Daniel Banks presented the award, the first Officer of the Year  honor during his tenure as chief.

“It is my honor to announce that the 2025 Officer of the Year Award is presented to  Officer Tyler Sohm,” Banks said during the meeting.

Sohm, originally from Battle Creek, Iowa, has served with the Hudson Police  Department for four years. He primarily works third shift alongside his K9 partner, Kiro.  According to Banks, Sohm led the department in total arrests in 2025. Many of those  arrests involved illegal narcotics, including marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and drug  paraphernalia. He also conducted multiple Operating While Intoxicated investigations and  removed a firearm from circulation.

Banks said Sohm’s productivity and proactive policing were key factors in the  recognition.

In addition to his work in Hudson, Sohm and Kiro assisted several partner agencies  throughout the year, including the Waterloo Police Department, Cedar Falls Police Department,  Evansdale Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol and the regional Drug Task Force.

Banks said Sohm’s initiative and commitment to duty reflect the standards of the  department.

“It is with great pride and appreciation that I recognize Officer Tyler Sohm as the  Hudson Police Department’s 2025 Officer of the Year,” Banks said.
