By Siri Olsen
The Hudson girls basketball team opened their week on Tuesday, Jan. 20, traveling to Denver to take on one of the top teams in the conference—and the No. 5 ranked team in Class 2A—the Denver Cyclones. The Pirates had previously faced Denver in December, falling by just eight points.
The rematch started as a competitive back-and-forth contest, but the Cyclones maintained the lead throughout. At halftime, Denver held a 28-19 advantage and extended their margin in the second half to claim a 55-42 win.
Junior Taylor Davis led the Pirates with 23 points, while junior Macey O’Brien added 9 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.
Hudson returned to action on Saturday, Jan. 24, taking on East Marshall. The Mustangs led 12-10 after the first quarter, but the Pirates came out hot in the second and held a 21-16 halftime lead. Hudson kept the pressure on in the second half and pulled away to secure a 61-41 win.
The Pirates improved to 10-4 on the season.
Hudson is back on the court Friday, Jan. 30, for a home conference matchup against Dike-New Hartford. JV tips off at 4:30 p.m. with varsity to follow at 6:15 p.m. Come out and support your Hudson Pirates!
