Last Friday night the Hudson Pirate football team hosted the Cascade Cougars, their second ranked non-district opponent in as many weeks.
Cascade started fast and their short, precise passing game initially created issues for the Pirates. They were able to get touchdowns on their first two possessions, while at the same time burn a considerable amount of time off the game clock.
Following a first quarter that saw Hudson only run three offensive plays, the Pirates began to get some traction with the run game. Even with that improvement over week one, they couldn’t find the end zone and trailed 14-0 at the half.
The second half saw Hudson make some defensive adjustments, and while Cascade still completed short passes, Hudson was able to get off the field and set up the offense. The third quarter saw the Pirates put together their best drive of the night, capped off by Blake Taylor’s first touchdown of the season. His 9-yard run cut the deficit to just seven and changed momentum.
Hudson used this new found momentum to hold Cascade again and mounted a fourth quarter drive that looked to even the score. With the Pirates facing a fourth and one from the Cougar 12-yard line, a quarterback sneak came up inches short and ultimately sealed the win for the visitors. They ran out the clock and the Pirates dropped a very hard fought game 14-7.
This Friday the Pirates will head out on their first road trip of the season, to Eldora to face #3 South Hardin, their third consecutive ranked opponent. Game time is 7 pm.
