Pirate Girls Sweep the Week with Trio of Wins
By Siri Olsen
The Hudson girls basketball team opened a busy three-game week on Monday, Jan. 12, traveling to Clarksville to take on the Indians. Clarksville started strong on both ends of the court, but the Pirates quickly fought their way back. In the second half, Hudson’s trademark tough defense created scoring opportunities that led to a 54-46 victory. Freshman Paige Davis led the team with 20 points, and fellow freshman Jordyn Rhoades added 11. Junior Macey O’Brien grabbed 11 rebounds, while junior Siri Olsen dished out 8 assists.
The very next night, the Pirates hit the road again for a conference matchup against Waterloo Columbus. Hudson held a 25-11 lead at halftime and came out even hotter in the second half, cruising to a 61-31 win. Junior Taylor Davis led all scorers with 22 points. Davis and O’Brien each grabbed six rebounds. The win improved Hudson’s record to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in NICL play.
Hudson wrapped up the week on Friday, Jan. 16, in Parkersburg for a rematch with conference rival Aplington-Parkersburg. In their previous meeting in December, the Pirates edged the Falcons in overtime—so they knew they were in for a battle. A-P came out strong and led 29-25 at halftime, but the Pirates didn’t back down. Hudson clawed their way back into the game, gaining a comfortable lead late in the fourth quarter and sealing a 61-52 win.
Freshman Paige Davis and junior Macey O’Brien both recorded double-doubles. Davis had 16 points and 12 rebounds, while O’Brien added 10 points and 10 boards. The Pirates improved to 5-1 in the conference with the win.
Hudson returns to action at home on Friday, Jan. 23, to face East Marshall. JV tips off at 4:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:15. Come out and support your Pirates!
