Pirate Boys Fall Short Twice, Drop To .500

By Kevin Yoder

With the majority of the non-conference schedule now behind them, the 6-6 Hudson boys  basketball team hits a stretch of games where they get a second shot to avenge losses to earlier  opponents.

Last Tuesday the Columbus Catholic Sailors came to town. The boys were looking to flip a ten  point loss from before Christmas.

The Pirates came out fighting. Tade Roberts was doing damage inside and Blake Delagardelle  was knocking down shots from the outside. A three point deficit after one quarter was shrunk to a single  point at the half.

Following a dead even third quarter the Pirates trailed by one heading to the fourth.  Unfortunately the offense fell on hard times to finish and Hudson lost 56-43. Delagardelle led the scoring  with 15, while Roberts contributed 14 and Bowen Backes an additional 9.

Friday the Pirates faced another rematch on the road at Aplington-Parkersburg. This time around  the boys competed much tougher out of the gate and only trailed by three after one quarter.  A spurt by AP in the second stretched the lead to fifteen at the half, but the Pirates had some  fight left. Tade Roberts did all he could in the paint and finished with a team high 20, but it would prove  to be not enough as the Pirates fell to the Falcons 69-43.

Another rematch had the Pirates in Denver on Tuesday, before returning to the Ship on Friday  night to host the Mustangs of East Marshall.
