Obituary: Marian J. (Philp) Lorenzen

Marian J. (Philp) Lorenzen, 90, formerly of Hudson, IA, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Boone  Hospital in Columbia, MO, after a brief illness.  

Marian was born August 16, 1935, on the family farm, to her parents, John and Dorothy Philp. She married  Donn Lorenzen on June 20, 1954, in Reinbeck, IA and they shared 58 years together before Donn's death in 2012.  She graduated from Reinbeck High School where she played basketball and was on the state championship  basketball team in 1952. Marriage and motherhood soon followed. She enjoyed watching her children grow up  playing sports, loved watching football and basketball on TV, and was as avid Iowa State fan. She loved to cook,  fish, and sew, spending many hours making quilts for her family.  

Marian is survived by her five children and their spouses: Randy (Patti) of Cedar Falls, IA, Jody Evans of  Atoka, TN, Kurt (Jean) of Olathe, KS, Jerry (Renee) of Fremont, IA, and Lisa (Scott) Dahl of Hartsburg, MO; eight  grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; June Meikle of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Luane Lorenzen  of Traer, IA; and many nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service was held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Reinbeck with  visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church  kitchen renovation fund. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to serve the family of Marian Lorenzen.
