Obituary: Karan May Boevers
Karan May Boevers, 85, of Cedar Falls, Iowa and formerly of Readlyn, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at UnityPoint-Allen Memorial in Waterloo.
Karan was born February 14, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Lorna (Diercks) Hagenow. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Readlyn. In her childhood she enjoyed 4-H and spending time with her cousins. Karan graduated from Readlyn High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to Dean Lee Boevers on September 24, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn.
Karan was a homemaker. Outside of the home she worked at Lutheran Mutual (CUNA) and the U.S. Postal Service in Readlyn and Waterloo, retiring in 2002.
Karan was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Zion Evening Circle since 1966 and also played the organ. She played trombone in the New Horizons Band, enjoyed playing cards and camping. She especially enjoyed family vacations and hosting family at her house.
Karan is survived by a daughter, Lynn (Dennis) Kuker of Readlyn; a daughter, Beth (Todd) Clark of Prior Lake, Minnesota; two sons, Bill (Amy) Boevers and Kurt (Jenny) Boevers, both of Cedar Falls; her grandchildren, Tony (Jing Huang) Kuker of Kirkland, Washington; Matt (Renee) Kuker of Urbandale; Nick (Megan) Kuker of Readlyn; Claire Clark of Fallon, Nevada; and Sam (Ellie) Clark of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Clint Boevers of Waterloo and Molly Boevers of Cedar Falls; her great-grandchildren, Will Kuker and Wyatt Kuker, both of Readlyn and Clara Kuker of Urbandale; a brother, Tom (Cindy) Hagenow of Readlyn; and two sisters-in-law, Renae Bockholt of Waverly and Barb Boevers of Fairbank.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Boevers in 1998; her parents, Harvey and Lorna Hagenow; her father and mother-in-law, Reinhart and Lauretta Boevers; two brothers-in-law, James (Jane) Boevers and Dan Boevers; and two sisters-in-law, Inez (John) Christensen and Patsy Boevers.
Services were held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, Readlyn with Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the organ fund at Zion Lutheran Church, REMS Fund for the Readlyn Emergency Medical Services Building, or to the New Horizons Band.
