Obituary: Daryl Paul Seyffer
Daryl Paul Seyffer, 75, of Waterloo, IA, formally of Hudson, passed away in Bettendorf, IA, surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2026 after a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Born on September 30,1950 in rural Beaman, IA, Daryl grew up on the Seyffer family farm, attended school in Hudson and graduated in 1969.
In 1972, he married Rebecca Williams and to this union they were blessed with two daughters Angie and Amy. They would later divorce and Daryl married Joan Shuberg.
Daryl built a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, where he served his community faithfully until his retirement. Outside of work, he was known for his easygoing nature, quick wit, sense of humor, and his love of bicycling including joining many of his friends on RAGBRAI.
He enjoyed listening to live blues bands, reading a good book and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball games.
Daryl treasured the time he spent with his daughters, family and friends, and his warmth and humor made every gathering better for his presence.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Shuberg-Seyffer, his brother, Dennis Seyffer, his parents Harry and Alice Seyffer, and nephew Wade Delk.
He is survived by his daughters Angie Rieck (Joe Westerhoff) of Eldridge, IA and Amy Seyffer (Joe Bickel) of Des Moines, IA; his grandchildren, Elsie and Henry Rieck; his stepchildren Sam (Lisa)
Shuberg, Ben (Emily) Shuberg and Heidi Shuberg and their children; his sisters, Shirley (Gene) Bowers and Jeanne (Red) Montenier and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at one of his favorite spots, LightHouse Lounge, 1307 W 5th St, Waterloo on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 5pm to 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Daryl’s memory by enjoying good music, a long bike ride, or a moment of laughter with someone you love.
