No. 6 Pirates Celebrate Senior Night With Sweep
By Siri Olsen
The Hudson Pirate volleyball team hosted Columbus Catholic on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to celebrate Senior Night. The Pirates entered the night still ranked No. 6 in Class 2A.
Before the match, Hudson recognized six seniors for their impact on the program throughout the last four years: Taylor Davis, Kaleigh Leary, Siri Olsen, Caitlyn Poppe, Abigail Seibold and Kaelyn Wolfe.
Davis will attend the University of Northern Iowa next year to play soccer. Leary will attend Hawkeye Community College to study nursing, Seibold will attend Iowa State University for graphic design and Wolfe will attend the University of Northern Iowa to double major in accounting and real estate. Poppe and Olsen are still undecided on their future plans.
The Pirate volleyball program is grateful for the lasting impact these six seniors have made throughout their careers playing volleyball for Hudson.
The match started out hot for the Pirates as they took the first set 25-10. Hudson came out even stronger in the second set, dominating the Sailors on the way to a 25-8 victory.
The third set was a bit closer, but Hudson took care of business and won 25-17 for a Tuesday night Pirate sweep!
The victory improved Hudson’s record to 10-3. Sophomore Paige Davis led the team with 11 kills, while senior Kaleigh Leary led the Pirates with 12 digs. Overall, it was a great night for the Pirates!
Hudson traveled to Le Grand to compete in the East Marshall Round Robin on Saturday, Sept. 12. The Pirates faced HLV, West Marshall, East Marshall, Class 4A No. 12 Benton and Vinton-Shellsburg.
Hudson was able to take care of each of those teams, ultimately earning the tournament win for the Pirates!
The Pirates will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 22, at home against the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons and again Thursday, Sept. 24, at home against Iowa City Regina. Two top-ranked teams are coming to Hudson to take on your Pirates, so come out and support them!
