Letter to the Editor: AMVETS Riders
Letter to the Editor
The AMVETS Riders are having their last benefit ride coming up August 15th. Our cause this ride is specifically for our Military deployed around the world. As we did last year, we will fill SOS boxes that will be sent to our military personnel wherever they may be serving our country.
We encourage the community to bring in items to the AMVETS Post the day of the ride. We will at a time in the following couple weeks, get together with members and possible area kids and fill boxes to be sent out.
Examples of items needed:
Snack items: Jerky, protein bars, trail mix, sunflower seeds, instant coffee, drink mix packets
Hygiene: Wet wipes, lip balm, travel size sunscreen, foot powder, eye drops, unscented heavy duty deodorant, body wash, sample size toothpaste, socks
Entertainment: paperback books, playing cards, puzzle books, travel size board games, handwritten letters or drawings from home.
Check your drawers at home. There may be sample size items or other items that could be used. I know I have a small sewing kit in the junk drawer. There are many things that someone in the military would think is awesome that we would never use at home.
We call this ride our “Fun Ride”. We do this, because putting a benefit ride together is alot of work. The girls that handle the 50/50 drawings and stamps for each stop and the auctions do an awesome job, but for this ride, they will just have fun.
We will also be having a band again for this ride. The band Painted Porch will be playing after we get back from 4 pm to 7 pm. There will be a hot dog bar for anyone hungry after the ride. There will be a place to make a free will donation. Please help with our cause.
Once again, the street in front of the Post will be blocked off. Please bare with us while we get together with our fellow riders. You do not have to be a member of our Riders Chapter to come along for
the ride. Our last ride had 57 motorcycles. We had a lot of fun and made friends and money for our Veterans. The stop at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown was the highlight of the ride.
Please join us August 15th for our “Fun Ride”. I also want to note that our sister group, Frontlines United will have their ride the following Saturday after our ride and will be leaving from the Federal Pub.
Thank you for your support!
