Hudson TAG Students Launch Final Socktober Drive as Mrs. Angove Prepares to Retire
By Danielle McCulley
For the third year in a row, Hudson’s talented and gifted students are kicking off “Socktober,” a schoolwide community service project led by longtime educator Mrs. Angove. Socktober collects new and gently used socks to benefit individuals experiencing homelessness in the Cedar Valley. Donations are delivered to the Salvation Army in Waterloo, where they are distributed to area shelters to help people stay warm and dry through the winter.
Leadership and volunteering are central to Hudson’s TAG programming, and Socktober has become a meaningful tradition under Mrs. Angove’s guidance. Each seminar class competes to collect the most pairs of socks, with the top sock-collecting seminar in each grade level earning a pizza and treat celebration.
Students and community members are encouraged to drop off socks at the school office or send them with a student to contribute.
In past years, the school has collected around 1,500 pairs. But this fall’s drive carries extra weight—it marks Mrs. Angove’s farewell tour as she prepares to retire in May. Her parting goal? Collecting 2,000 pairs.
“Let’s help our students be Pirate Proud and meet this incredible goal by providing a much needed service for those in need,” she said.
