On May 21-23, the Pirate girls track team competed in the Class 2A State Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The girls competed in four events, set four personal records, medaled in all four events and broke two school records.
Mollie Hansen placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 10:27.94.

Reese Hansen, Elle Gunnarson, Jordyn Rhoades and Mollie Hansen placed eighth in the 4x800-meter relay with a season-best time of 9:48.57. All four runners recorded season-best split times.
On Saturday, Hansen continued her success in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs. She placed fifth in the 800, breaking the school record with a time of 2:17.72. The previous record of 2:18.17 was set in 2011 by Holly (Halstead) Petersen.
Hansen also placed sixth in the 1,500, breaking the school record with a time of 4:47.42. The previous record of 4:48.66 was set in 2022 by Addison Grady.
“The girls could not have ended the season any better,” coach Jamal Currica said. “We were all extremely proud of their performances. It was a great experience for all of us, and we had an outstanding season.”
