HS Wrestling: Fogt, Ites Cap Strong Run at State
By Coach Wayne Haskovec
The Pirates wrapped up the 2026 State Wrestling Tournament with a combined 6-4 record, and every single win came by fall — all bonus-point victories.
Mason and Carter were each one win away from reaching the podium, dropping hard fought matches in the blood round. Mason fell 3-1 in his blood-round match — a razor-thin margin that underscored just how close he was to the podium — while Carter battled deep into his final match before being pinned. While that final step proved just out of reach, both wrestlers exceeded expectations throughout the weekend.
Mason entered the tournament as the No. 20 seed and knocked off the No. 19, No. 13 and No. 12 seeds along the way. Carter came in as the No. 16 seed and made a strong statement by defeating the No. 8 seed in the third round of consolations. Both wrestlers battled past their projected finishes and proved they belonged on the state stage.
State can be bittersweet. The margin between standing on the podium and going home is razor thin. What stood out most, however, was the way our guys competed every second of every match. The grit and determination it takes to endure four months of wrestling is unique to those who step on the mat, and that toughness was evident all weekend.
We are incredibly proud of the effort our Pirates showed at state. The next step in closing out the season will be our banquet, where we will celebrate the work that went into this year. Thank you to everyone who supported our program throughout the season.
