The Hudson girls basketball team hosted the Class 2A substate quarterfinal round against the Jesup J-Hawks on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Jesup entered as the No. 5 seed, while Hudson held the No. 4 seed, setting up what many expected to be a competitive matchup. The teams previously met in December, when the Pirates earned an overtime win. Hudson entered the game with a 15-6 record, while Jesup came in at 13-8.
The game started back and forth, with both teams trading baskets and defensive stops. Hudson led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. The battle continued into the second quarter, and Jesup took a narrow 22-21 lead into halftime.
Both teams came out ready to compete in the second half. However, the J-Hawks were able to create separation late and gradually extend their lead. Hudson fell 50-42, ending its season with a 15-7 record as Jesup advanced to the next round.
Juniors Taylor Davis and Siri Olsen led the Pirates in scoring. Davis finished with 22 points, while Olsen added 11. Freshman Paige Davis grabbed eight rebounds. Head coach Brad Hansen reflected on the season.
“This basketball season has been amazing,” Hansen said. “Watching the girls bond and enjoy playing basketball with each other was fun to watch. They showed up every day for practice wanting to get better. I’m proud of everyone that was part of this team.”
The Pirates expressed gratitude for the support they received throughout the season and thanked the Hudson community for backing them all year.
