Girls Track: Pirates take runner-up finish at South Hardin Invite

The Hudson girls track team turned in a strong performance at the South Hardin Girls  Invite on Friday, April 10, finishing second out of 16 teams with 69 points.  The Pirates delivered an impressive overall showing with seven personal records, nine  season-best performances and 14 top-eight finishes.  

Reese Hansen led the way, capturing a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a  season-best time of 12:27.30.  

Hudson also found success in the relays. The 4x800 team of Elle Gunnarson, Jordyn  Rhoades, Ella Steele and Mollie Hansen placed first in an exciting battle with Aplington Parkersburg, running a season-best 10:11.40.  

Ella Steele added another first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.95).  Mollie Hansen placed second in the 800 meters (2:23.35, SB), while Reagan Lewis  finished seventh with a personal-record time of 2:45.54.  

The distance medley relay team of Jaylea Trevey, Maggie Haskovec, Hannah Chardoulis  and Reese Hansen placed third (4:50.59).  

In the 1,500 meters, Reese Hansen and Elle Gunnarson pushed each other to strong  finishes. Hansen placed fourth with a season-best 5:36.35, while Gunnarson followed in fifth  with a personal-record 5:36.98.  

The 4x400 relay team of Jordyn Rhoades, Chardoulis, Hansen and Steele placed fifth  (4:25.12).  

Additional top finishes included Teagan Honermann, who placed sixth in the 400 meters  (1:08.46, SB), and Sophia Santman, who placed sixth in the discus (86-2, SB).  The sprint medley relay team of Josie Messmore, Trevey, Haskovec and Reagan Lewis  placed eighth (2:09.06), while Chardoulis added an eighth-place finish in the high jump (4-8).  Several Pirates also recorded personal bests, including Sydney Rook in the 800 meters  (3:00.32), Kaelyn Heasley in the shot put (24-10¼) and Josie Messmore in the 100-meter  hurdles (20.29).  

Hudson will compete next at home on Tuesday, April 14, and Thursday, April 16 at Dike New Hartford.
