Girls Track: Hudson Girls Take third, Honor Seniors at Home Relays

The Hudson girls track and field team turned in a strong performance on senior night,  placing third out of 16 teams with 71 points at the Hudson Relays on April 20.  The Pirates recorded 12 top-eight finishes, along with three personal records and three  season-best performances in a well-rounded team effort.  

Hudson was led by multiple first-place finishes. The 4x800-meter relay team of Elle  Gunnarson, Jordyn Rhoades, Ella Steele and Mollie Hansen claimed the title in 10:16.63.  Hansen also won the 800-meter run in 2:24.74, while Steele added another victory in the 400- meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.00.  

Reese Hansen paced the distance events with a second-place finish in the 3,000  meters in a season-best 12:22 and a third-place finish in the 1,500 (5:39.64). Gunnarson also  placed sixth in the 1,500 (5:44.10).  

In the sprints, Cailin Stickfort placed third in the 100-meter dash with a season-best  13.74 and added a seventh-place finish in the 200 (28.45).  

The 4x400 relay team of Jordyn Rhoades, Hannah Chardoulias, Steele and Hansen  placed third while setting a personal record (4:16.73). The distance medley relay team of Jaylea  Trevey, Maggie Haskovec, Chardoulias and Reese Hansen finished fifth (4:48.75), while the  4x200 relay team of Teagan Honermann, Gunnarson, Rhoades and Reagan Lewis placed sixth  (1:59.94).  

Chardoulias tied her personal record in the high jump, placing sixth (4-10).  In the field events, Kaelyn Heasley (76-0) and Brooke Stine (71-3) each recorded  personal-best throws in the discus.  

The meet also marked the program’s senior night, honoring eight seniors: Mollie  Hansen, Ella Steele, Megan Steele, Sophia Santman, Ellie Richter, Brooke Stine, Teagan  Honermann and Maggie Haskovec.  

“Our seniors have helped build our program, and they will leave behind a legacy of hard  work, commitment, character and a positive team culture,” head coach Jamal Currica said.  Hudson returns to action Tuesday, April 28, at South Tama, followed by a meet Friday,  May 1, at Hampton-Dumont.
