The Hudson girls basketball team opened one of their final weeks of regular-season play on Tuesday, Jan. 27, against the Wapsie Valley Warriors.
The game started close, with Hudson holding an 8-6 lead after the first quarter. The Pirates extended their lead in the second quarter, allowing just 8 points and taking an 11-point advantage into halftime. Hudson’s intense defense continued in the second half, creating more offensive opportunities and helping the Pirates pull away for a 47-30 victory.
Hudson improved to 11-4 on the season. Junior Taylor Davis led the Pirates with 18 points, junior Macey O’Brien added 9 points, and senior Mollie Hansen dished out 5 assists. The Pirates returned to the court Friday, Jan. 30, for Senior Night against conference rival Dike-New Hartford. The game was intense from the opening tip. Hudson led 14-11 after the first quarter and held a narrow one-point lead at halftime.
Dike-New Hartford took the lead at the end of the third quarter and maintained it through the fourth. The Pirates kept the game close but fell 56-52.
Junior Macey O’Brien led Hudson with 16 points, and freshman Paige Davis grabbed 7 rebounds.
Two seniors were recognized during Senior Night: Mollie Hansen and Gia Baldiviezo. “I’m so grateful for my four years of playing basketball with my amazing teammates,” Hansen said.
“I’m so glad I chose to go back out this year because this team is so fun to play with and be around,” Baldiviezo said.
Hansen plans to attend Augustana University next year, while Baldiviezo will attend Indiana University. Both seniors have made a lasting impact on the program and will be missed.
