Farmers invited to attend meeting on Bokashi Fertilizer November 23

Veterans Freedom Farms (VF3) is inviting community members, farmers and supporters  to a meeting focused on sustainable agriculture, veteran employment and regenerative farming  practices. The event will highlight the latest VF3 initiatives aimed at helping veterans build  agricultural careers while strengthening local food systems.

The keynote speaker, Clarence “Cab” Baber, a founding partner of VF3 and a seasonal  farmer from Hawaii, has been using and promoting Bokashi for more than 20 years. He will  share his expertise on how Bokashi can be applied across many Iowa crops, outlining its  benefits for improving both yields and soil quality.

Wayne Volkl, an Iowa State University graduate in agronomy and crop science, also will  present on the agronomic science behind Bokashi and its impact on soil microbiology and  nutrient cycling.

The event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the AFIL Building, 4020 University  Ave., Waterloo. Parking is available beside the building behind Casey 218 Pub or in the former  Hy-Vee lot. Attendees should enter through the back door of the AFIL Building.

VF3’s programs continue to expand their impact across Iowa, combining agricultural  training with community partnerships to promote sustainable practices and provide meaningful  work for veterans transitioning into civilian life.
