Candidate Q&A: Gail Bunz - Mayor (Incumbent)
Why are you running for this office, and what do you hope to accomplish during your term?
I am running because I want to continue to bring my knowledge base to the city and our city hall staff. I want us to keep growing as a community. I’d like to see us get back to doing some strategic planning so we can chart a path we’d like to see the city take.
What do you see as the most important issue facing Hudson right now? Obviously getting Hudson back to financial stability. We have done a lot of work, we are headed in the right direction and we will definitely get there.
What experience or perspective do you bring that you believe will benefit the city? My 10 years of experience as a city council member (serving as Mayor Pro Tem for 9 of those years) and the last two years as Mayor will definitely benefit the city. Also, with our City Administrator and Deputy City Clerk leaving on the same day, I have hands on experience of day-to-day finances such as deposits, paying bills, assisting with water bills, etc .that continues to benefit the city.
How will you help improve communication and transparency between the city and residents?
To continue to have agendas and minutes available to the citizens in print as well as on our website, zoom access to the council meetings and also encourage the citizens to keep being involved. I attend the Chamber of Commerce monthly meetings to make sure our business community is informed of the city business.
What does respectful leadership look like to you in local government?
Respectful leadership to me involves with continuing to allow citizens voices to be heard but also following the law. People also need to remember that respect runs both ways. You may be passionate but you need to deliver your message in a calm manner.
Is there anything else you’d like voters to know?
I am so proud to say that I am from Hudson. Alright sometimes I get a little exuberant about Hudson and everyone knows where I am from whether it is here in the Cedar Valley or throughout the state. I think we all have the right to be proud of Hudson and I want to continue to serve our community and keep promoting it
