Area Farmers listen to Ag updates given at Mid-Iowa Crop Fair
A slate of agriculture professionals were present to share updated information with area farmers at the Crop Fair held January 28, hosted by the Mid-Iowa Cooperative and Iowa Corn Growers. Among the featured speakers at the event held at the Cedar Falls Hilton Garden Inn, was Mike Naig, Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture who spoke about the agriculture outlook with farmers. He noted it was just one day after President Trump had been at a facility in Clive, Iowa, where he stated welcome news, that he would sign an E15 fuel bill if it came to his desk.
"He responded by saying that he absolutely supported year-round, nationwide access to E15, the Unleaded 88 as we know it." Naig said. "This sends a huge signal. Now it still has to be passed through Congress. The administration can't do this alone, Congress needs to take action."
The ag Secretary also spoke briefly on the "Choose Iowa" branding program underway for a diverse number of Iowa-made products, enhancing their marketability. Other speakers at the Crop Fair event included a specialist on succession planning as a farm financial strategy, the grain market outlook, crop insurance update, news from Iowa Corn Growers as well as the Iowa Soybean Association. Wrapping up the Crop Fair was Mid-Iowa Coop manager Bruce Kempf.
