Applications Open for AMVETS Riders Scholarships
The Hudson AMVETS Riders Post 82 have built a steady tradition of giving back by supporting local students year after year through scholarship opportunities rooted in service, character and community.
That effort continues this year with two scholarships available to Hudson seniors and Hudson alumni currently attending college.
The Riley “Tugger” Gilbert Memorial Scholarship honors the life of Riley Gilbert, a Hudson graduate, U.S. Army veteran and volunteer firefighter who died in a motorcycle accident in April 2024.
Known for his selflessness and ability to connect with others, Gilbert left a lasting impression on those around him. In his memory, two scholarships—$1,000 and $500—will be awarded to students who reflect his character and commitment to helping others.
Also offered is the Maurita “Rita” McCulley Lubbers Memorial Scholarship, established in honor of Rita Lubbers, a Hudson High School graduate remembered for her compassion, strength and unwavering positivity.
Even while battling Stage 4 colon cancer, Rita continued to lift up those around her. Funded through community donations and the annual “Rita’s Ride,” the scholarship will award three $500 scholarships to students who demonstrate resilience, kindness and a desire to make a difference.
Both scholarships are open to current Hudson High School seniors and Hudson alumni currently enrolled in college. Applications are due April 15.
Students may apply through Hudson High School or by contacting a Hudson AMVETS Post 82 member.
