#3 Tigers Defeat Pirates

#3 Tigers Defeat Pirates

By Kevin Yoder

The Pirates wrapped up the toughest non-district schedule in Class 1A last Friday night with a 41-14 loss at the hands of the South Hardin Tigers.

South Hardin started fast and kept their foot on the gas through the entire first half. Their running game put the first score on the board just two plays into the game. That was followed by pinpoint throws in the vertical passing game that stretched the margin to five touchdowns just before half.

It was following that fifth score that South Hardin finally kicked one deep down the middle. Anderson Yoder fielded the kickoff at the 12-yard line and followed his blocking through a seam straight up the center of the field. He hit a crease through the coverage and raced 88 yards to the end zone. Jackson Nesteby hit the extra point and Hudson chased a 34-7 deficit to the halftime break.

The second half was much more competitive and although the Pirates did allow one more score, they matched that score with another of their own. Quarterback Tade Roberts rolled left and dropped a perfectly placed ball in the hands of Mason Fogt on a corner route. That touchdown set the 27-point final margin and concluded a very challenging first three games, all against ranked opponents.

Hudson returns home Friday night as they embark on their Class 1A District 4 schedule, which begins by welcoming the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars to town. Game time is set for 7 pm.
